Expired Vaccines

There is ONE GOLDEN RULE to vaccination. Always check the date of expiry before your child is subjected to vaccination. The harms of expired vaccine being administered have been making national news and hopefully you are fully aware of its risks.

Vaccination is a double edged sword. If you do not vaccinate your child, the chances of him/her developing the specific disease is EXTREMELY high and the chances that those diseases will be transmitted are equally higher. However administration of expired or improperly stored vaccination is close to suicide. The chances of your baby developing fatal complications or even death are very high. In the same note, the expiry date is not the only clue to the expired vaccines, but the storage too. Improperly stored vaccines are as good as expired vaccines. Some of the vaccines now come with a potency indicator on top that clearly gives away if the vaccine has expired. Make sure you check the indicator AND the date of expiry before the vaccine is administered.

Few rules in vaccination:

1. Always check the expiry date AND the potency (if applicable) of the vaccine.

2. Administer vaccines only in reputed hospitals/Govt Hospitals that have the necessary infrastructure/facility to resuscitate your child if necessary

3. Always talk to your doctor before going in for mass vaccination.

Vaccination, like mentioned above, is extremely essential to the well being of your child. And making sure that your child gets the right vaccine which has not expired and not lost its potency is also your responsibility. After all it is your child.
