Crying FAQs

1.      My new born baby cries but there is no tears. Is something wrong?

a.       No. Tears are produced only by 4-8 weeks. So no tears in the first few weeks is not a concern.

2.      Do I spoil my child by picking him up while he cries?

a.       Not at all. Babies need reassurance and picking up your baby and hugging him gives him that. So pick up your baby and cuddle him all you want.

3.      My doctor gave my baby an injection and he has been crying for a long time. Is something wrong with the injection?

a.       Hmmm. Well, the vaccination DPT which is given on the 6th, 10th and 14th weeks can cause continuous crying. Do speak to your doctor if this is the case. Normally, there is nothing serious, but if this happens, you have to inform your doctor before the next vaccination.

4.      How do I find out why my baby is crying?

a.       That is a mother’s gift and you have it too. Babies cry for anything right from being hungry, wanting some physical reassurance to fear and pain. You will soon be able to differentiate why your baby is crying.

5.      My baby has been crying for a long time. Is something wrong?

a.       Normally babies cry for hunger and the need to be cuddled. Once you feed your child and burp him and pat him, he should stop crying. But if the cry is extended and your baby refuses to feed do take him to your doctor. If your baby has fever, DO NOT try to treat it at home. Refer to a doctor.
